The Governor made this public when a delegation from the Federal Fire Service led by the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior, Barr. Georgnia Ehuria paid him a courtesy visit at Government House Umuahia.

While disclosing that the allocation of land followed an earlier request for a parcel of land by her, Dr. Ikpeazu expressed his administration’s readiness to partner the Federal Fire Service in its fight to reduce the incidences of fire outbreak and attendant loss of lives and property in the state.

The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu, maintained that the State made use of its areas of comparative advantage, especially the SMEs to promote the can-do-spirit of Abians and championed Made in Abia and Made in Nigeria products, thereby empowering her citizens.

The State Chief Executive who described the proposed establishment of Federal Fire Service South East Training School as an added advantage owing to the fact that it would provide employment opportunities and improve the state economy, thanked President Buhari for his decision to establish the South East Training Centre for fire fighters in Abia State and the Abia born Federal Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Interior, Barr. Georgnia Ehuria for her contributions to that effect.

In her speech, the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Interior Barr. Georginia Ehuria said that the establishment of the Fire Service Training School Umuahia was part of the next level agenda of the Federal Government to realize safety of lives and property, especially in the major markets in the country including Aba.

Speaking earlier, the Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Dr. Ibrahim Liman disclosed that the Federal Government has approved the establishment of Fire Service South-East Training School in Umuahia and made a request for allocation of land for the building of the school as well as a tempoary accommodation for immediate take off of the programme.

According to him, the school would offer training for the professional development of firefighters in the five States of the South-East and stressed the need for the Federal Fire Service to partner the Abia State Government to minimize the threats of uncontrollable fire to lives and property.

Dr. Liman commended the policies Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in the areas of Agriculture, Commerce and Industry to strengthen the economic base of the State and congratulated him on his reelection, stressing that his victory is a confirmation that the people of Abia State are pleased with his style of leadership.
