IKPEAZU TO REPS MEMBERS: “TELL FG TO BUILD OUR ROADS, TACKLE EROSION” (See Photos)

A call has been made to members of the National Assembly from the South East zone to prevail upon the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency move in to reconstruct some of the Federal roads in Abia State as well as rescue it from the devastating menace of erosion.

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who made the call equally solicited the support of the Federal Lawmakers in the actualization of the Enyimba Economic City Project, a project he said would, among other socio-economic and cultural benefits, provide about 700, 000 jobs for the people of the South East.

The Governor while receiving members of the South East Caucus of the House of Representatives led by the Deputy Chief Whip and member representing Isiukwuato /Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Honorable Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, at the Governor’s Lodge Aba, called for the reconstruction of such roads as, Ikot-Ekpene – Aba road, Ikot-Ekpene-Umuahia road and other Federal roads in Abia State, to grant more access roads to traders and business men that flood the State.

While lamenting that Abia State has suffered massive devastation because of erosion menace facing it, noted that the State has lost schools and buildings to erosion, he regretted that the State has not received any assistance from the Ecological Fund.

He used the opportunity to inform them of his efforts in promoting Made in Aba Products, disclosing that the Automated Shoe Factory built for the Aba shoe makers would be commissioned soon. He equally explained that the reason behind building roads in the State with Cement Pavement Technology was for the roads to last much longer.

Governor Ikpeazu, who commended the Federal Legislators for the visit which he described as most strategic, assured that his brother Governors would comply with their proposal of collaborations.

Earlier in their separate speeches, the leader of the delegation and Deputy Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha and the Deputy Minority Leader, Hon. Toby Okechukwu said they came to appreciate the works of the Governor in the State and to seek collaborations with him to develop the South East. They assured of their readiness to partner him in the development of the State.

They commended the Enyimba Economic City Project of Governor Ikpeazu and his infrastructural development programs as well as promotion of Made in Aba Products in the State and urged him to continue.

All the members of the House of Representatives from Abia State were part of the delegation.
