At this same location, Abia State government is currently partnering CBN to train 1000 Abia youths on poultry farming. It bears a clear testimony of the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu-led administration’s commitment in driving a revolutionized agro sector in the State.
Agriculture, which is a major employer of labour in Abia State has received great boost under the watch of Governor Ikpeazu-led administration. Over two million Tenera palm seedlings have been raised and distributed to farmers while more are being raised to attain the target of seven million to be distributed by the administration. Many moribund farm settlements have been revamped. Abia is taking the lead in poultry farming with the establishment of a poultry cluster at Umuosu-Nsulu, Isialangwa North LGA, as well as mushroom production, which is the brainchild of the Ikpeazu-led administration. Rice production is on the increase as the Governor has built and commissioned rice mills in Uzuakoli, Bende LGA and Acha, in Isuikwuato LGA of the State, to assist the rice farmers mill their rice within their localities. This is different from other existing mills.
Governor Ikpeazu’s agrarian policy instigated the revitalization of all the palm estates and cocoa plantations in the State, which were handed over to private investors for more profitable and efficient managerial inputs. His government has secured various equipment to aid mechanized agriculture in the State and has encouraged youths in agriculture as well as engaged some in Anchor Borrowers Programme and other related agricultural programmes. The Governor is about to establish an agro cluster in Ubani-Ibeku, where agricultural value chain centre and cassava processing plant would be located.
