IMAGE AND THE DESIRE TO LEAVE INDELIBLE IMPRESSIONS: HOW FITTING IS IKPEAZU’S CASE?

2

Image, in the words of a popular American tennis star, is everything. It is about what he says, what he wears, the gait, the hair, the photo ops. It is not necessarily about the inputs but the perception. It incorporates the desire, drive and vision to leave an indelible impression in the minds of people.

Hence, the goals and achievements of a true leader should revolve and be reflective in the lives of the masses. It should not be self-centered, or one marred by seeking self promotion, politics of deceit, delusion and vanity.

However, in the midst of many bad eggs,
political neophytes and greenhorns, there are leaders who understand and represent image differently, thus carving a niche for themselves in the hall of fame. They are fanatical about the deeds and not mere flavoured and garnished satirical oratories. They are result oriented and postured, and are not intimidated or allowed to be undermined by detractors, unbalanced critics. They’re not given to easy victories.

The number of politicians that belong to this category is minute, insignificant, hence after their exit on the sands of time they are celebrated as heroes and heroines.

Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s image is that of someone who belongs to a select group of politicians who are tried, tested and molded in the tradition of performance, thus his distinctive style is definitive of his image.

He is a performer, not the flimsy talker, this is showcased and explained in his transformational touches on our roads, in our hospitals, schools, SME development strategies, youths empowerment schemes, agricultural development policies, industrial revolution and the far flung reaches of rural Abia.

After the Governor’s press briefing yesterday many had kept asking: How prepared is Abia government against the outbreak of the Chinese virus – COVID-19? Well, I will leave you to savour this images for now. I will write about them with a video in my subsequent short article.

Hang on for: CORONAVIRUS: HOW PREPARED IS ABIA?
