INTERPRETING GOVERNOR IKPEAZU’S VISION; ANYATAONWU SETS A FAST PACE AHEAD OTHERS

The ability to interpret a leader’s vision is imperative and key in governance because leaders may need to exhort followers to expend exceptional efforts in order to attain deserved resultant effects on the populace. Like Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, effective leaders showcases compelling visions, such that the people can see, feel, understand, and embrace with a picture of what the future will look like when their visions have been interpreted and realized. This obvious fact formed my conclusion recently when I honoured an invitation to cover an event for the LG TC Chairman, Isiala-Ngwa South. Chief Ike Anyataonwu has set the pace by interpreting and keying into action the Governor’s vision for his people.

Following his reappointment as the Transition Committee Chairman of Isialangwa South Local Government Area of Abia State, Chief Ike Anyatonwu (Emetumba Ahu Dike) has not relented in performing excellently in line with the charge given to the LG Chairmen by the State performing Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu. This Local Government boss has ensured he initiates programmes that would have direct bearing on the people of the area.

Just recently, Chief Ike Anyatonwu made history again in response to the demands of his people, especially the youths. Particularly, in a bid to curb farmers/herders clash and manage the menace of cattle rearing and herdsmen activities in Isialangwa South Local Government Area of the State, this Transition Committee Chairman inaugurated a Cattle menace Resolution Committee with an Assistant Commissioner of Police and Area Commander for Isialangwa North and South LGAs, Mr. Onuoha Chikadibia as the Chairman.

While inaugurating the committee, the Local Government Chairman said that the aim of constituting the committee is to solve conflicts that are bound to arise in the relationship between farmers and herdsmen in the area. The mandate of the committee according to him,
is to detect and nip in the bud issues of conflicts that usually erupt between the farmers and herders in the area, saying that there is need to curb such problems before they get out of hand. Hence, the LG boss charged the committee members to work assiduously to make sure such problems are well-managed as well as assess destruction of crops and other farming produce by the heardsmen or maltreatment of the cattle rearers where such occurs. He expects the committee to recommend necessary compensations to either of the parties in case of crisis and urged the committee members to make sure people do not take laws into their hands as two wrongs cannot make a right.

Certainly, with this committee on ground, people would be confident that crisis would not occur as the concerned agrieved individuals would be reporting to the government the issues of conflicts between the farmers and herdsmen through the committee.

This is important and apt because, Isialangwa people and of course Abians in general are known for farming. And it would be provocative when people’s farms and farm produce are destroyed by cattles. However, when the farm owners and cattle rearers relate well, each of them would do their farming Independently without issues.

The LG boss equally performed foundation laying ceremony of a befitting office for the Isialangwa South Traditional Rulers Council. This edifice, when completed would be used by the Traditional Rulers as their meeting centre. They would no longer hold meetings under canopies. This is a feat many of Chief Anyatonwu’s predecessors did not achieve.
Chief Anyatonwu has also rolled out his ideas on how his government would manage youth restiveness and unemployment.

He has established Isialangwa South Mass Transit and has procured Coaster bus to be taking passengers to Aba and Umuahia to sell their farm produce. The vehicles would be conveying them at a reduced price. Those who are going to Aba would be paying 250 naira only. Chief Anyatonwu is also establishing an Environmental Protection Agency in Isialangwa South with a view to ridding the area of impending environmental challenges and hazards, especially as Owerrinta and Umuekea are becoming towns. The Council has its own pail loader and waste bins with which to tackle the environmental issues.

Also, the Council under Chief Anyatonwu plans to embark on self-sustaining projects for the Local Government Area. The Council plans to create jobs for the teaming youths as it believes that the best thing to do is not to ignore the youths but to bring them in and empower them, especially in Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. He has vowed to bring private sector mentality to governance in Isialangwa South as well as open Isialangwa South bottled and sachet water. It equally intends to fix the market at Owerrinta through Public Private Partnership.

Chief Ike Anyatonwu deserves commendations for these achievements. Just like the Governor is busy fixing the economy of the State, Chief Emetumba Ahu Dike is making the Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu’s led administration proud through his performances in the office. There is no doubt, that Chief Anyatonwu would sustain these prowess in Isialangwa South. Congratulations Chief Ike Anyatonwu, Emetumba Ahu Dike!
