MRS IKPEAZU ANNOUNCES CREATION GENDER BASED RESPONSE DESK FOR REPORTING AND MANAGING GBV CASES
The wife of Abia State Governor and President, Vicar Hope Foundation, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has announced the creation of a Gender Based Response Desk as part of effort to compliment the effort of partners and support groups on gender based issues.
Mrs made the announcement disclosed in Umuahia at news conference called as part of 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence and International campaign to challenge violence against women and girls.
She who informed that Desk would create referral partways for reporting, Counseling and managing gender based violence cases appealed to the press to join hands with her in giving gender based issues the necessary attention it deserves so that our people could have the right perspection about it.
Speaking on the theme: ‘Orange the world: Generation Equality Stands Against Rape,’ Mrs. Ikpeazu regretted that while only one percent of about 15million adolescent girls worldwide who have experienced forced sex at some point in their lives come out to seek for professional help.
“It is no longer news that in the recent events, the cases of rape has been on the hike. It is no longer men raping women they are now raping girls even girls of a few months old,” she stated.
Mrs. Ikpeazu gave reasons why rape cases are not being reported as discrimination, victimization and called for those who face issues of such to speak out.
Also speaking, Barr. Chidinma Alozie, who represented FIDA commended the wife for promoting the bill against violence of gender expressed the hope that the bill would be passed soon which would also make Abia among the 6 States to pass domesticate the law.
