By Ubani Newman
The campaign trail of the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has hit
more Local Government Areas in the State, including Ikwuano, Umuahia South, Umuahia North and Ugwunagbo with the clamour for the re-election of Governor Ikpeazu intensified.
Speakers after speakers; it was an outpour of encomiums on the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and other candidates with great assurances that the PDP would sweep the polls in the entire Local Government Areas.
In Ikwuano LGA for instance, the people of the Local Government Area said that they are solidly behind the re-election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and other PDP candidates in this year’s elections. The people of the area made their feelings known through the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Ugoeze Kate Onyemachi, immediate past Chairman of Ikwuano LGA, Mrs. Ngozi Orji, Former Commissioner in the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Chief Uche Mpamah and other PDP stakeholders in the area. They unanimously agreed that the people of the area would vote for PDP because the government of Abia State led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has laid solid foundation for people oriented governance.
When the Governor’s wife led the Peoples Democratic Party women campaign team to Apumiri Ubakala, the council headquarters of Umuahia South, the people showed their solidarity with the Dr. Ikpeazu led administration and vowed to support PDP in the elections.
Speaking at the rally, the Commissioner for Training and Establishment, Mrs. Elizabeth Uhuegbu, Permanent Secretary, Planning Commission, Mrs. Adanma Iheuwa, the immediate past Chairman of the council, Mr. Obioma Ogbulafor and the Chairman of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board, Mr. Kenechukwu Nwosu, said that the people of Umuahia South have no choice but to reciprocate the good gesture the Governor has shown through his development programmes. They maintained that the act of carrying everyone along and his inclusive politics is enough to galvanize his re-election. They added that other parties have no stronghold anywhere in the area except, the PDP, hence, PDP would win convincingly.
As Mrs. Ikpeazu’s campaign team stormed Umuahia North Local Government Area of the State, the people of the Council joined others in the State to throw their weight behind the re-election of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and other Peoples Democratic Party in the elections.
Speaking at the campaign ground in Ibeku High School, the wife of former military president of Nigeria, Lady Victoria Aguiyi Ironsi, State PDP Director General Women Mobilisation, Barr. Nnenna Obewu Onwuka and wife of the state PDP chairman, Lady Uzoamaka Onuigbo assured the Governor’s wife that Umuahia North will be in the forefront of re-electing Ikpeazu.
However, the height of the campaign came when the wife of former Transition Chairman of the Council, Hadiza Suleman Ukandu led the Hausa community in the State to declare their solidarity to re-elect Ikpeazu. Hadiza said that PDP government in the State is good and accommodating to them hence they are supporting the party.
In Ugwunagbo, the story of solidarity was the same as women trooped out in their numbers to show support to the wife of the Governor and the PDP in Abia State.
Speaking, the wife of former Deputy Governor of the state, Mrs. Nene Ananaba, said that, it is paramount Governor Ikpeazu completes his second term because both North and Central had done theirs and did not have a breach, saying that they would do the right thing to support his second term bid.
Others who lent their voices in support of Dr. Ikpeazu and PDP on behalf of the people were the House Member representing Ugwunagbo State Constituency, Mr. Munachim Alozie, Commissioner for the vulnerable group, Mrs. Precious Achumba a Commissioner in the Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission, Mr. Kelechi Dede and former commissioner for Environment, Chief Chinwe Nwangaga. They stated that they do not want those who failed in their businesses to lead Abia, adding that the State is making progress with Ikpeazu as the Governor.
It is important to note that the wife of the immediate past Abia Governor, Mrs. Odochi Orji was on ground in all the campaigns where she encouraged the electorates to vote massively for the PDP and expressed joy over the mammoth crowd of women that are in support of the PDP. According to her, Governor Ikpeazu deserves everyone’s support for second term to consolidate on his works for Abians.
She however took time to explain to the women how to vote correctly to avoid void votes.
Making her speeches in all these LGAs, the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu acknowledged the support and devotion the for PDP, saying that she is sure, PDP would win convincingly in all the elections.
Mrs. Ikpeazu charged women to come out massively and vote, adding that women have the number and strength to make decisions in elections. She explained that the re-election of Gov. Ikpeazu for second term in office is in accordance with the Abia chatter of equity as determined by the founding fathers of the State.
According to her, “your support to achieve this should be guided by peaceful conducts on the election day, after voting we shall stand by and defend our votes against miscreants who would want to hoodwink us”. She further said that re-electing Ikpeazu is to sustain the progress he has made in women development and facilitating other infrastructures in the State and stressed the need for the women and the youths to vote and defend their votes.
These great supports are evidence that the PDP candidates are already on their ways to victory. It is incumbent on all to troop out “en masse” to secure victory for the Governor and his team members for more peace and development in Abia State.
