Abia State commissioner for health, Dr. John Gozie Ahukannah, has said that his dream is to take the Health sector in Abia state to greater heights and to leave it better than he met it.
Dr. Ahukannah stated this on Tuesday when the Abia state primary health care board led by the chairman, Dr Awah Madu, paid him a courtesy visit in his office in Umuahia.
Dr. Ahukannah while welcoming the board members said he is very glad that such a board has been constituted while hoping that there will be a good relationship between the board and the ministry.
He charged members of the board to work in synergy with the Health Ministry to ensure that our Primary Health Centres and primary health care Activities are effective and functional, noting that very soon, the World Bank/FMOH sponsored Basic Healthcare Provision fund would be accessed by the state and would impact positively on Abia Health systems generally. He noted that all these and more would add to the achievement basket of His Excellency, OVI, thus ensuring his smooth re-election in 2019
In his speech the chairman of the board, Dr. Awah Madu said that one of the reasons they came to visit the commissioner is to present the newly constituted board members to him.
He said the board is ready to work in synergy with the honourable commissioner and the state ministry of health to achieve better health management which is the dream of Dr Okezie Ikpeazu led administration.
Dr. Awah while thanking the commissioner for welcoming them to his office complained that their offices are in a state of decay and pleaded for the honourable commissioner’s assistance
Also in attendance at this meeting, was the Medical Director of the Abia State Emergency Medical Services, who informed the board members that the Abia EMS which was flagged off by The Hon Min of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole at the 59th Council on Health ably hosted by Abia State in Jan 2017, was now fully functional and accessible via the Emergency number 112. He tasked the board members to carry this message to all nooks and cranies of the state so that all Abians could avail themselves of such services.
