Following dangerous incidents of what could be described as landslide ravaging buildings and lands in Umuchime community, Amuzukwu-Ibeku, residents of the area have sent a Save Our Soul (SOS) message to the Federal and State Governments to intervene urgently and rescue them from the life threatening menace.

Lamenting their ordeals to press men who visited the site, a nursing mother, Mrs. Ijeoma  Emmanuel, who escaped death from the building that sank into the slope in the area yesterday told her story. According to her, the ground of their house was shaking as there were some movements on the walls of the building, around 12 noon yesterday, then she carried the baby and stepped out. Immediately after stepping out, the building collapsed and sunk into the gully. She thanked God for saving her life and that of her little baby.

Another resident and the Director of Information, Government House, Umuahia, Mr. Jinanwa Azubuike decried the terrifying problem of the landslide. He explained that they first noticed the land degradation and caving in of the buildings around the area about two years ago and did their best including alerting the Federal government then, but nothing was done.

Mr. Jinanwa noted that the life threatening landslide is beyond what an individual can handle and pleaded with government at all levels to assist them and save them from imminent danger.

Also narrating their story, other residents of the area, including Mrs. Ifeoma Nkemakolam and Rev. Patrick Asiegbu cried to government at all levels to come to their rescue.

They informed that they have done all they could, including deploying self-help but all to no avail regretting that they now live in fear especially whenever it rains because they cannot predict the next incident. They expressed confidence that government would come to their rescue.
