…CUPP hails boycott

Opposition parties on the platform of Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) have commended Justices of the Supreme Court who boycotted Saturday’s inauguration of election tribunals by the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Tanko Mohammed

IVOTESNG reports that Justice Mohammed on Saturday inaugurated a 250-member Governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly election petition tribunal barely 24 hours after President Buhari controversially suspended Juatice Walter Onnoghen as CJN

The CUPP in a statement by its spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, also advised the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) to take a cue from the Justices and begin to boycott court sessions, “until the right thing is done on this matter.”

He described as a welcome development the position taken by the United States, United Kingdom and the European Union on President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Onnoghen.

He urged the US and UK government to take further hard stand against Buhari and officials of his government until they reverse the illegal decision.

He stated, “the CUPP asks that the hard stand should include travel bans on key officials of this government, including the interloper, Justice Tanko Muhammed.”
