The Wife of the Abia State Governor and founder, Vicar Hope Foundation Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has called upon the participants of the Urban Thinkers to bring out their best ideas and action plans that would help the State to turn around the conditions within the cities for good.
Mrs. Ikpeazu was speaking at the plenary session of the Urban Thinkers Campus of the World Urban Campaign; an initiative of the United Nations held in Umuahia. In her words, “our foundation, the government, relevant stakeholders and the ordinary Abian desire a city that is beautiful, habitable, and runs the entire gamut from affordable and qualitative housing to functional sanitation, infrastructure, security and even emergency services,” .
The Wife of the Governor said she was excited to have the Urban Thinkers plenary session kicked-started in the State saying that the event was a fulfillment of vision shared by her and her husband in collaboration with the Vicar Hope Foundation as well as other government agencies and individuals.
She appreciated the Governor and Hajia Dr. Limota Giwa, whose platform brought about the venture and friends from the United Nations Habitat for seeing the potentials in Abia State and given the opportunity to host the session in the State.
Also speaking, the Convener, Dr. Limota Giwa said that Abia was one of the selected States for the programme and informed that Abia would be in the world map of those who appreciated the new Urban agenda. She stated that in the new urban agenda, many things are considered before houses are erected and pointed out that such things include human rights issues, infrastructure et cetera.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman Organising Committee and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs Dr. (Mrs.) Nnenna Chikezie informed that the aim of the programme is to provide better shelter and build resilience and prosperous cities for better livelihood of the people.
She the requested all to throw their support behind the programme – the plenary session – which attracted the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu and wife among others, witnessed lectures and discussions.
