YOU WILL NOT LOOSE YOUR MARKETS, SCHOOLS, FARM LANDS… – Governor Ikpeazu tells Umuagu-Ibeku people

The Construction of remediation works of Umuagu-Ibeku, Umuda-Isingwu and Amafor – Isingwu gully erosion site has been flagged-off by the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
Flagging- off the project being handled by the Nigeria Erosion & Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), at Ikeala Primary School, Umuagu-Ibeku, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu said the project was initiated to ensure that people would not loose their markets, schools, farm lands and other forms of livelihoods.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu said he is confidence that the contractor would deliver as the project is so dear to his administration. He promised to ensure the project is realised in good time and thanked the development partners for their support.
In his speech earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment & Solid Minerals Development, Dame Chimechefulam Nwoke thanked the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for paying 350 million naira counterpart fund to the World Bank, which facilitated the work. She disclosed that 23 million naira compensation has been paid to the people whose farm lands and houses were affected in the areas the work was to be done.
According to her, members of the host communities would be trained in various livelihood to start businesses and stop doing any business around the project area.
She told the contractor that much is expected from him, as the best is needed in the work and appreciated the Governor for his various interventions in environmental issues.
