2023: Nigerians Bash El-Rufai As He Discourages Zoning Presidency

5

Mallam El-Rufai is thought to have made a case for the abandonment of the zoning system, as he advised choosing competence ahead of long standing arrangement.

The former FCT minister said the country could not afford to maintain the culture of zoning, going forward.

He said this in a prologue titled, ‘Defeating a Determined Incumbent – The Nigerian Experience’, while contributing to a book authored by the DG of the Progressives Governors’ Forum, Salihu Lukman.

Though unofficial, political parties have internal agreements of rotating important positions -Presidency, governorship – between north and south.

President Muhammadu Buhari of the APC, the current president, is from the north and many believe his successor will comes from the south in 2023.

But the latest remark from El-Rufai has put many into confusion as regards what happens in 2023.

It’s obvious with his recent attacks on Tinubu. Also they knew the only way to retain power in the north 2023 is to choose a northern. Anything from the south for APC in 2023 is a no no for the north.  Let the game begins.”

The above remark comes courtesy a twitter user, by the username, @ayemojubar – who was apparently reacting to reports that Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai was discouraging zoning as regards the 2023 presidency.

Another twitter user expresses thus, “If he so believes in competence, how come he ended up supporting the most incompetence president Nigeria has ever had?” – @henro006

There is competence in Zone.
Each zone are competent. Competence or zoning is not a problem but system in place is the problem.
Part of the problem is, political party zero vision.

The governor in his usual stupidity. When he knew Buhari was a curse and inept, he insisted on supporting him with his life.

Eleleya, they are trying to hijack the power back to North coming 2023. That will not work. We willingly denied ATIKU that position just to make sure that u don’t use more than four year again before another tribe take over.

Haba oga just try and wait for another 8yrs after baba has gone then we can start the conversation on jettisoning zoning not now that you have just finished using the southwest to grab another tenure.

@elrufai If it is about competence, d North will never get Presidency. Having been there for 47yrs of Nigerias independence, has d North shown any competence? The one we have now just took Nigeria back to 1966 because the country has to start healing again in the next regime. pic.twitter.com/Fp9ChGwIKI

Zoning in politics to be dropped for competence but federal character and quota system have to be continued for promoting unity. Lol
I put the blame on our founding fathers, corrupt piece of wankers cooling off on our naira notes.
