NEWLY DEPLOYED NYSC CORPS MEMBERS URGE TO SHUN NEGATIVE VICES

The Acting Governor Of Abia State, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has called on the newly deployed NYSC corps members to Abia State to shun those vices capable of truncating their lives and future. Sir Oko Chukwu who made the call during the swearing in ceremony of the 2018 Batch “A” Corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Umunna, Bende Local Government Area said that such vices as cultism, drug abuse and armed robbery would undermine their living a positive life.
Represented by the Honourable Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ike Anyatonwu, he urged them to focus on those virtues that will mark them out as outstanding individuals throughout their service year.
According to him, “you are no longer future leaders, but today’s leaders. This leadership role start here in the camp as some of you will take up various leadership roles during and after the orientation course and therefore you should brace up this challenges”, he stated.
The acting Governor equally assured them of adequate security measures to protect their lives and properties and tasked them to cooperate with the camp officials as well as attend all camp activities especially the skills acquisition and leadership training as to enhance their potentials and create opportunities of employment after their service year.
He thereafter congratulated them for scaling through the academic huddles which qualified them to participated in the noble and grassroot oriented programme that will impact positively on the lives of the rural people especially in Abia State.
Also speaking, the State chairman NYSC Governing Board and the Commissioner For Youth Development, Comrade Ike Anyatonwu represented by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Ugoeze Ifeyinwa Uwasomba enjoined them to take every aspect of the orientation course every seriously.
He assured the newly corps members posted to the state to feel free to interact with the people of the state as government have put every arrangement in place to ensure that their stay will be comfortable and memorable.
In her address, the state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Ifon Francesca said that total of 2,385 Corps Members posted to Abia State 1,120 were males while 1,265 are females registered at the close of registration.
She urged them to pay particular attention at the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development and warned the newly corps members that the scheme would not tolerate any act of indiscipline.
Mrs Francesca therefore advised them to read the orientation service guide given to them for better understanding of the service year as well as appreciated the state governor ,Dr Okezie Ikpeazu and Army, Police, Civil Defence Corps, National Drugs Enforcement Agency, Man O War, Red Cross and other stakeholders for their continuous support to the scheme.
The event featured the signing of the NYSC Visitors Register by the representative of the Acting Governor, Inspection of Quarter Guides and signing the Oath of Allegiance by the selected Corp Members representing various Platoon.
