ABIA PPP/IP: BEAMING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE CORNERSTONE
Owing to a “flash post” I made previous two days, there has been an influx of queries interrogating and seeking to know more about the Abia state PPP/IP(Private-Public Partnership/Investment Promotion) Office, how to contact them and of course their achievements. The very first query came from my brother, Anyatonwu Witson. Well, these questions and requests about the affairs and modus operandi of the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s PPP/IP team has not come to me as a surprise because the “sophisticated” PPP/IP team is made up of and chaired by the very best of Abians from the private sector. The class of men who rather align with showcasing results rather than making “pinky promises”. The Abia PPP/IP Office was set up by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in June 2015, immediately he assumed office on 29th May 2015. In January 2016, the PPP/IP Office became an Agency of Government when the Governor signed the enabling Law passed by the House of Assembly establishing the Agency. Mr. Austin Ufomba was appointed by the Governor as the Director General/CEO of PPP/IP Office. To further embolden authoritatively the PPP/IP Office and its activities, Governor Ikpeazu again in December 2016 inaugurated the Abia PPP/IP Governing Council ably Chaired by Mazi Sam Ohuabunwa and Mr. Austin Ufomba as Vice Chairman/CEO with Dr. Paul Ananaba SAN, Dr. Edward Isiwu, Commissioner for Finance, Attorney General/Commissioner for Justice Member, Commissioner for Trade & Investment, Commissioner for Industry and Secretary to the State Government as members. This highly sophisticated Abia PPP/IP team under the supervisory role of Governor Ikpeazu are the brains behind the drive for and the engine, effectively mobilizing the realization of many flagship projects such as: ENYIMBA ECONOMIC CITY (Ukwa West, Ukwa East and Ugwunagbo LGAs) NIBRA LEATHER AND FOOTWEAR CITY, (Obuaku- Ukwa West LGA) HERITAGE CITY (development of a smart city at Owerrinta) AGRO INDUSTRIAL PARK (Ukwa-Nkporo in Ohafia LGA (3 Anchor tenants erected already)) ENYIMBA MALL (Etche Road Aba) …with many other projects under review. I am going to come up with prerequisite factual details on the stages of each of these projects accompanied by detailed analysis on how each of the projects was conceptualized from a simple idea. We will detail the investors’ advantages, capturing how laws have been enacted to protect the investors’ investment even against the government itself. This PPP/IP team has attracted very powerful investors like Mr. Darl Uzo, Vice Chairman/CEO, Enyimba Economic City and others who have staked heavily to bring about the rising fortune of Abia state under Governor Ikpeazu’s watch. We are going to ignite discussions torch-lighting on these investors’ profiles.
