The Wife of Abia State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu has stated that the Government of Okezie Ikpeazu is working tirelessly to ensure that the health care delivery system in Abia State becomes number one.
Mrs. Ikpeazu who spoke at flag- off the Health week strongly affirmed that the state government is fostering strong partnerships with communities to provide the basic right to life for mother and child.
According to Mrs. Ikpeazu, “We have recorded milestones in efforts to reduce high rates of preventable deaths, but we are determined to do more by scaling up some basic steps: steps such as family planning, preventive treatment of malaria in pregnant women and prevention of mother to child transmission of HIV/AIDS.”
While listing other areas of success in the health sector which includes: Immunization, Vitamin A Supplementation, De-worming of Children, Use of Oral Rehydration Salt with Zinc for Diarrhea and Use of Insecticide-treated Mosquito Nets to prevent malaria, She identified three areas where the Government is currently carrying out interventions as low patronage of health facilities leading to high maternal, newborn and child death; increasing rates of malnutrition and Low adoption of exclusive breastfeeding practices.
The Abia first lady further disclosed that the State Primary Health Care Development Agency, State Ministry of Health, the Save One Million Lives Office and other NGOs are working in synergy to drive down the statistics of morbidity and mortality resulting from the three issues she adding that “Early this year, the Federal Government in conjunction with the state launched the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund. Over 1 billion Naira in drugs and health-service is being injected into the health system. We hope to see an impact in these three areas in due course that will add to successes previously record in our health care sector under Governor Okezie Ikpeazu,” she concluded.
