Abia Assembly invites new ABSIEC chairman for screening
The Abia State House of Assembly, Monday, received a letter from the State Governor, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu, for the screening and confirmation of Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, as the Chairman-designate of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission (ABSIEC).
DAILY POST reported on Saturday that Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, had approved the appointment of Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa as chairman, Abia State Independent Electoral Commission, (ABSIEC).
Professor Mkpa’s appointment was contained in a press release signed by the Governor’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere and made available to DAILY POST in Umuahia, the state capital.
However, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, after reading the governor’s letter during the house plenary session, invited the ABSIEC Chairman-designate to appear before it on Tuesday.
Mkpa before his appointment was a former Vice Chancellor of the Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu and ex-Secretary to State Government (SSG).
Meanwhile, the Abia Assembly during its sitting, dissolved to the Committee of the whole and considered the report of the House Committee on Agriculture on a petition titled, “Save Our Soul”: A Call for urgent Intervention in the Looming Crises between Ubaha- Umunna Nsulu Community and Fulani Herdsmen.
Also, the house considered the report of the Joint Committee on Health and Education on H.A.B 4: “A Bill for a Law to Establish the Abia State Hospital Management Board”.
Our correspondent who monitored the Assembly’s sitting on Tuesday, reports that it adjourned plenary session to tomorrow, Tuesday, 10th of March, 2020, by 10am.
