OKIYI KALU WANTS STUDENTS TO DISTINGUISH THEMSELVES IN THEIR VARIOUS ACADEMIC FIELDS
The Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu has advised students to distinguish themselves in their various fields of studies in order to compete favourably with their counterparts in other climes and be able to handle governance at different levels in the Nigeria with probity and accountability.
The Commissioner gave the advice when he received a delegation of the Students’ Union Government, University of Calabar chapter, who visited and presented him with a leadership award.
He pointed out that youths are supposed to be leaders of today and tomorrow and not just tomorrow as is being popularly said.
Chief Kalu used the opportunity to inform that the Abia State government under the leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was determined to develop Aba, the SME capital of Nigeria and deliver a commercial city the entire Igbo nation would be proud of.
The Information boss, who explained that Aba is jointly own by Ndi Igbo, revealed that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has carried out various projects and is poised to do more for the people, disclosing that the proposed Enyimba Economic City which the goverment was pursuing vigorously would employ over 700 thousand persons.
He urged them to guard against discrimination among Nigerians in political leadership and stressed the need for equity and true federalism in the country, noting that the Igbo man has what it takes to galvanize the economy of Nigeria.
While congratulating the Vice President of the SUG and Igbo daughter from Enugu State on her election, he urged her to leave remarkable footprints in the sands of time and expressed excitement that an Igbo girl was holding the position of Vice President of the Students’ Union Government in UNICAL.
Chief Kalu said he was humbled by the award given to him and stated that all that has been achieved in the State was done by the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu.
Earlier, the Vice President of the Students’ Union Government, University of Calabar chapter, Comrade Chisom Edwin said the delegation came to identify with the Commissioner and to present a merit award to him which he was nominated for during the Global Leadership Summit which the students held recently.
She disclosed that the merit award was in recognition of the Commissioner’s invaluable contributions to youth and education development in Abia State. She said they are aware of the Commissioner’s contributions to the growth and development of the media sector in Abia State and expressed their appreciation to the works of the Commissioner in the State, describing him as a leader for the people.
