Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has approved the deployment of modern technology in the security system as part of effort to strengthen the fight against crime in Abia State.
The Governor in a tweet, further revealed that the State has flagged off the training of select members of the Nigerian Police Force to drive the new initiative, code named Crime Prevention and Management System (CPAMS).
According to him, all the police posts in Abia will henceforth be linked online real-time and connected directly to the CP, the AIG and the IGP’s offices, informing that the system which will help in crime prevention and intelligence will feature among other things the bio data, fingerprints and other vital information of all suspects.
“The relevance of this initiative cannot be overemphasized and the IGP is expected to officially herald it before the end of November 2020,” Ikpeazu wrote.
He added: “This is in furtherance to our earlier steps taken to continuously improve security of lives & property in the State. Such steps include a new Zonal Police HQ we built for the Force in Umuahia and additional 20 new vehicles we are procuring this week for the various security agencies in the State.
“The essence of all this is to help reduce the incidents of police brutality on the people since citizens can now report issues directly, online real-time, to the CP, IGP and the Governor even with real-time pictures/videos.”
