Last Friday was one of the kind of days I would consider as the most eventful and momentous days of my life. I went to the office a bit late accompanied by my nine months old son as it was my turn to take care of him because my wife went to the market that morning.
It was the first I took him to my office, and in my mind, I had this thought he was going to do something that will make me write about the experience, but I was wrong. In the past couple days, he had displayed some behavioral surprises, but that day, while with me in my office, he behaved so “gentlemanly”, doing nothing extraordinary until his mother called and requested that I bring him back which I did satisfactorily. So he didn’t make the news.
But when I returned to the office, my phone started ringing and stopped before I could bring it out of my pocket to answer the call, buy then I saw the caller’s name, she wasn’t the kind that call every day, it was the Boss’ Boss, I headed straight to her office.
At the “Premiere Damme’s” office I was ushered into her conference hall where I joined an ongoing digital presentation with her already seated, she motioned me to sit down.
As I moved towards my seat, the caption on the projector display (VICAR HOPE FOUNDATION – Implementing Sustainable Growth) caught my attention, and it downed on me – this is a good news.
Virtually all pet projects of Nigerian Governors or their wives fades away after the administration that founds and inaugurated them. This happen because of lack of plans or the will power to sustain such projects.
However, going on, there, in the Governor’s Wife conference room, was a presentation on how to unsure continuity of Vicar Hope Foundation (VHF) projects, even after the 8 years of Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu’s administration.
Vicar Hope Foundation, a pet project Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, by the grace of God, will not join the bandwagon of those projects and programmes that closes with the expiration of the administration under which it was established.
I sat and watched as the presentation proceeded, capturing key issues like Understanding Sustainability, Sustainability Planning, Steps To Sustainability, Ensuring Sustainability, Ensuring Financial Sustainability, Achieving Organizational Sustainability, and other topical steps to ensure that Vicar Hope Foundation is sustained beyond 2023 and continuous.
The presentation revealed that collaborations with International donors, other Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and individuals ready to support, in one way or the other, will greatly help to sustain the project.
At the end of the presentation, the Abia First Lady was asked what her plans were for the Foundation after 2023. With her face lit with passion and determination, she responded in a very short asseveration.
She said, “I expect a sustained Vicar Hope Foundation after 2023, I expect continuous activities, even when I am no more wife of the Governor.”
Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu assures the Foundation would continue to carry its projects aimed at ensuring life is made easier for the people of the State, promising that she will always be available to ensure the dream of establishing the Foundation would not die.
This passion driven assurance and commitment are applaudable because, Abians could calculate more benefits expected from this all important and heaven sent Foundation. This Foundation, which is geared towards putting smiles on the faces of the poor, the less privileged and physically challenged individuals in the State, have done well and impacted much to the people of Abia State.
It is note worthy that the Foundation has done captivating projects in the State, ranging from saving and affecting lives positively through building of sickle cell diagnosis and treatment centre, given hope to an innumerable paupers and widows by building houses for them. This Foundation has touched the lives of many numerous indigent Abians across from the 17 Local Government Areas.
It has distributed books to school children, distribution of over 500 wheel chairs and clutches to disabled persons as well as cleared hospital bills of any patients worth millions of Naira.
There is therefore, an increasing need for continuous support and prayers for the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, and her pet project so that the collaborations would work and the project would be sustained beyond 2023.
