The Abia State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Dan Okoli, said the State Homeland Security Watch will, next week, embark on mass sensitization to educate citizens on how to download and use the newly introduced Abia Safety Alert System (AB-SAS) App.
Prince Okoli disclosed this at Government House Umuahia, while addressing Officers of the Abia State Homeland Security Watch who have just concluded their training on the use of the AB-SAS App.
The Commissioner noted that those to be sensitized include Local Government Chairmen, members of the executive arm of LGAs, heads of parastatals, members of the legislature from the 17 LGAs as well as other stakeholders.
According to him, those who have completed the training will also train their colleagues in their respective Local Government Areas after which they are expected ‘go down to citizens in your local government, creat forum where you gather traditional rulers, youths, especially those who have smart phones and train them.’
He maintained that Abia State stand a chance to benefit all round, both security wise, heath wise business and even leisure using the App, noting that it takes the ingenuity of the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu for Abia State to have this App, the first in the country.
“We are trying to evolve a system where we can prevent crime from taking place, nip it in the bud and not to chase crime. What we observe in other security agencies is that their method is to chase crime. We don’t want it to happen at all in Abia State. Some time in the future, Abia will be crime free without a single gun shot. We want to render guns ineffective in the security of Abia,” the Commissioner said.
Okoli, who told the officers of the Homeland Security Watch that their status was now different from the average security man on the road, describing them as digital security personnel
He enjoined to put serious interest in learning how to make use of the App so that they can teach others insisting that the App will make their job much easier.
ABIA ONLINE gathered that the four-day training had five Officers of the Homeland Security Watch drawn from each of the 17 Local Government Areas in Abia State.
