Today, the 8th of January, 2020, the Abia State Emergency Medical Service(Abia EME) has opened a new ambulance bay in Abia North senatorial zone, precisely at Ohafia General Hospital, Ohafia LGA.
This bay would help in extending the services of the emergency medical scheme to Abia populace and residents of Abia North zone.
Sequel to today’s opening of the new ambulance bay, the agency organized some trainings for nurses and other workers on the 2nd January 2020, at Ohafia General Hospital, where about 20 nurses were trained on CPR and emergency medical response.
Abia EMS is one of the health care services established by Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu in the State. The aim of establishing the Abia EMS was to save lives by ensuring victims of health emergencies in the State access healthcare very quickly. The victims access this healthcare through dialing a dedicated phone line; 08133556900 during emergencies. Immediately the call centre is reached such victim gets hope of being cared for as help would come from the agency.
It is on record that this Emergency Medical Services the Governor introduced had, on several occasions, carried great interventions and saved many lives. The team has intervened severally in many cases where they treated and conveyed many victims of emergency cases to other places of optimal treatment. In those cases, both the young and the old were rescued. While some rescued individuals were people who sustained burns and injuries as a result of explosions, others were victims of road accidents or those who slumped during their sports competition or as a result of emergency ailments. The emergency number with which people reach the agency for prompt response remains the same.
Governor Okezie Ikpeazu deserves commendation for his avowed commitment to delivering qualitative, affordable and available medical care to the good people and residents of Abia State.
As the Ohafia operation center gears in officially today, it is expected that this State Emergency Medical Service would serve the people and save more lives. Indeed, through this particular medical care intervention, the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has really written his name on gold in the hearts of Abia people and residents.
