Abia Gov’t Inaugurates Taskforce in Readiness to Reopen Markets

IN READINESS FOR REOPENING OF MARKETS NEXT WEEK, ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT INAUGURATES TASK FORCE FOR MARKETS

Abia State Government has inaugurated 17 man Task Force on Covid 19 in each of the markets in the State.
Inaugurating members of the taskforce, the Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem charged them to educate their members on strict compliance with the COVID-19 preventive measures and maintainance of highest level of hygiene. He disclosed that trading which commences next week will be taking place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and will be between the hours of 9am and 3pm.

He said that the essence of the partial relaxation was to balance hunger, life and activities and urged them not to let themselves loose as trading commences, warning that the pandemic is not over but still in the increase in Nigeria. According to him, goverment would rely on them for the enforcement of the compliance in the markets.

Earlier, the Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Chief Ukpai Agwu Ukpai read out the guidelines for the market reopening to include; having separate aprons for each market taskforce members, getting 20 litres of bucket for running water in each shop, wearing of facemasks for both buyers and sellers, avoiding clustering and touting in the market.

Responding, ASMATA Chairman, Elder Ugochukwu Achilihu assured that the members of the tacsksforce would adhere to the instructions given to them and ensure that traders in all the markets in the State comply with the covid 19 preventive measures.

He thanked the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for having the interest of the traders at heart by approving the partial reopening of markets in the State.
