Abia Govt Inuagurates Market Committee, Tasks Them To Assist Govt Raise IGR

Abia State Government has charged the newly inaugurated Market Committee Executives for the various markets in the State to assist the Government in raising Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the State.

Commissioner for Trade & Investment, Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe who gave the charge while inaugurating the Committee noted that the state government is in a hurry to raise the bar of it’s IGR as well as to repair infrastructural decay in the various markets and urged them to work by the tenets of governments directives to achieve a robot IGR for the State.
He disclosed that the state government will not renege in its fight against street trading adding that the Ministry has served notices to those concerned, inline with the governor’s directive to rid the state of Street trading.
While advising the newly inaugurated committee not to impose unauthorized levies on the traders and ensure they do not deface the original structure of the markets, the commissioner urged them to comply with the state governments directives as well as liase with the Ministry to maintain peace and security in the various markets.
Describing the members of the committee as men and women of proven integrity, Ndukwe, expressed confidence that they would accomplish the task before them.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Trade & Investment, Ugoeze Adanma Ihuwa in her address, challenged the market leaders to justify the confidence reposed on them by the state government through hardwork dedication and service and pointed out the need for them to generate revenue for the State Government.
Chairman Ariaria International Market Aba,Mr. Okeke Steven and his Asa Nnentu counterpart, Mr. Hycinth Chima, in their responses, promised to put up measures to check revenue leakages in the markets and enhance Internally Generated Revenue assuring that they would ensure that all revenue due to the State is remitted accordingly.
