ABIA GOVT INVESTIGATING ATTACKS ON ABIRS ENFORCEMENT TEAM – ABIA SSG

Abia State Government say its attention has been drawn to the attack on the Abia State Internal Revenue Service (ABIRS) enforcement team by some keke operators in Aba along Aba-Owerri Road on Tuesday, December 1, 2020.

In a statement endorsed by Secretary to Abia State Government the Barr. Chris Ezem, the State Government said it is currently investigating this unprovoked assault with a view to identifying the perpetrator and will ensure they are duly punished to serve as deterrence to others.

“For avoidance of doubt, the general public is to note that ABIRS and its agents are empowered by relevant laws to enforce collection of all taxes, fees and levies due to the state Government,” Ezem noted

He added that” “any transport union or individual(s) with the intention to cause disturbances in the State in order to stop collection of government revenues will be dealt with decisively in accordance to relevant laws of the country, as security personnel have been placed on red alert on this matter to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators.”
