In what could be seen as a response to a call by a coalition of the Civil Society Organizations in Abia State led by the wife of the State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu, the Abia State House of Assembly has passed into Law H.A.B 3: The Abia State Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Bill, 2019.

The Law, sponsored by the Speaker of the Abia state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji, would prohibit all forms of Violence against Persons in Abia State and For other Related Matters Connected there with.

The Bill now awaits the assent of the Governor of Abia State Dr Okezie Ikpeazu.

It will be recalled that the wife of the Governor, and the President, Vicar Hope Foundation, Mrs Nkechi Nkechi has been at the forefront of this bill, and for the first time, a wife of the Governor visited the 7th Assembly to intimate them on the need for the passage of the bill.

Mrs. Ikpeazu had also visited the Commissioner of police and the Judge of the State in a bid to ensure that all arms of the Government come to an agreement and see the need for the passage of the bill.

And only recently, she called a World Press Conference, at her Vicar Hope Foundation where she charged the press to use their power to ensure that people see the need for the passage of this law.
