The Abia State Joint Taskforce on Covid-19 has taken a more stringent measures in the enforcement of border closure and the lockdown in the State.
The Taskforce led by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Homeland Security, Chief Sopuruchi Bekee, Thursday embarked on road closure within Umuahia as well ensure that our borders closure is tightened up to make certain restriction of both vehicular and road movements.
With the Commissioner for Lands, Alhaji Suleiman Ukandu, Head of Service, Sir Onyii Wamaah, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on New Media and Publicity, Ubani Newman Ubani as well as other members of the Joint Taskforce team including the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, M. A Jatau, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Mr. Alfa Jibrin and other security agencies in the State, the team worked with the Commissioner for Homeland Security, Prince Okoli.
Areas covered included the border between Abia and Imo State, known as Onuimo as well as that at Owerrinta, where they ensured that none exempted categories of individuals were either confiscated or made to turn back.
The team, working with the Brigade Commander at the Owerrinta Naval Base, O. C Olukoya, cleared every movement at the Owerrinta border by ensuring that both people and vehicles were made to turn back irrespective of what you are carrying with exception of those exempted who must be properly identified.
In a brief meeting with their counterpart team from Imo State, both agreed to include Health workers at the borders with clinical infrared Thermometers to check every one that must pass through the borders so as to identify any suspected case as well as provision of hand sanitizers in order for people to be sanitized before entering the States.
ABIA ONLINE observed from the roads visited, such as Umuahia/Port Harcourt expressway, Ubakala/Aba road, including other roads leading to Onuimo from Abia Tower, that they were scarcely anyone on the road as the compliance level was near perfect.
