Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has avowed his commitment to the Abia State Tele-Health Initiative declaring his full support as long as he remained the Governor of the State.

Dr. Ikpeazu made the vow at Michael Okpara Auditorium, venue of the stakeholders meeting of Abia Tele-Health Support Initiative aimed at advancing the Universal Health Coverage for all Abians.

He observed that the programme is a leveler which does not know rich or poor as it provides everyone with equal access at the same time and disclosed that the initiative would ensure that every sick person easily get connected to a medical doctor thereby eliminating quackery in the the system.

He described the Telecom partner, Globacom as destiny helpers who came after ‘we have consistently and relentlessly pursued this dream,’ to leverage on the strength of their reach to ensure and support the deepening of health care to every Abian especially the less privilege one who might not have access to the Services of a medical doctor for reasons ranging from time constraints, distance to the precarious nature of their circumstances.

The State Chief Executive noted that the programme was equally designed to capture the interest and well-being of the youths especially those in the tertiary institutions reason being that they make up the majority of people who use phones for various purposes in the Internet asserting that ‘we all have a stake in the success of this progamme.’

In a welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joe Osuji informed that the the Abia Tele-Health Initiative was positioned to deliver affordable and adaptable health care services to the people of Abia State irrespective of their location within and around the State.

He noted that the stakeholders meeting was initiated to introduce the Abia Tele-Health Initiative and make more contribute to driving it to a more robust manner so as to improve population health.

In a presentation, the consultant of Abia State Tele-Health Initiative, Dr. Omas Ubiame, enumerated the benefits of the programme and commended the support of the State Governor and called on all Abians towards ensuring that the Tele-Health Initiative succeeds.
