In a bid to contain floods in Aba and save many homes from collapse, Government has sustained the desilting and scooping of drainages in some blocked gutters in many roads in Aba metropolis.
ABIA ONLINE team who monitored the progress of the exercise in School road, Aba, observed that most of the gutters have been opened up for free flow of water while work is very much in progress in others, payloaders have also been stationed for scooping and packing the rubbish scooped out of the gutters.
Speaking with ABIA ONLINE team, the Operational Manager of Cosby Global, the company handling the exercise, Mr. Charles Nwaigwe disclosed that the desilting was initiated by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to prepare for the upcoming rainy season.
He explained that the by opening up the gutters for free flow of water, the menace of flooding being witnessed in many areas of Aba would be controlled.
The Operational Manager, who conducted our team round the entire area, commended the landlords, residents and business owners in the area for cooperating with Government by heeding to the directive to scoop their gutters.
He used the opportunity advised them to ensure they do not throw in unwanted debris into the gutters to avoid future blockage, warning those in the habit of trading on the drainage and their likes to desist from the act or face the consequences of their actions.

Mr. John Louis Chibuzo, who told us that he was born and brought up in the area, recalled that since the administration of Chief Sam Mbakwe, no other administration has remembered that part of the area for such exercise until the present administration of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
He commended the Governor, not only for directing that gutters be scooped and packed by Government but for embarking on other developmental projects like the construction of many abandoned roads in Aba.
ABIA ONLINE team reports that the desilting and scooping of the drainage systems are also progressing in other areas in Aba such as Park road, among others.
