The Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu has said his administration will make provision for the sum of 10 million naira to all tertiary institutions in the State to continue online lectures while at home.
This is coming as he has ordered an indefinite postponement of the Abia State University, Uturu (ABSU) Convocation already slated to hold on the 26th of this month as well as the immediate closure of the institution.
The Governor was speaking in a briefing with journalists at Goverment House, Umuahia upon his return to the State from Australia, where he negotiated scholarship placements for about fifty Abia children.
Ikpeazu, who assured Abia people and residents of his preparedness and determination to ensure they are safe from the dreaded Corona virus, announced the distribution of 70 thousand hand sanitizers and 10,800 buckets for washing of hands in all primary and secondary schools in Abia while directing all public and private schools in the State to conclude their exams and vacate on or before 30th of this month.
He reiterated the need for all Abians and residents alike to adhere strictly to the advice and guidlines provided by medical experts on how to guard against contracting the deadly disease, including; regular and proper hand-washing, use of sanitizer, avoid hand-shake, avoid crowded places among others.
According to him, Abia is not panicky about the Corona virus as the disease is not a death sentence but an ailment that requires community effort to deal with.
The State Chief Executive while noting that Abia has not recorded any case of the virus, informed that the State has two functional isolation centres at FMC, Umuahia and ABSUTH, Aba with a third centre for Abia North billed to be opened soon.
He expressed the hope that together, Abia will be among States that will remain free and survive the scourge.
The Governor had earlier inspected the Abia Tele-health centre, where the State Government had provided for patients to call from time to time to get medical attention.
