EMBLEM LAUNCH: ABIA GOVT REASSURES NIGERIA LEGION, SECURITY AGENCIES OF CONTINUED SUPPORT

Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has reassured that his administration will continue to encourage and support the State Council of the Nigeria Legion and other Security Agencies in all areas within the limits of available resources for their complementary roles to the sustenance of peace and security in the state.

Ikpeazu gave the assurance through his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, during the emblem and appeal fund launch for the year 2021 Armed Forces Rememberance Day at the Women Development Center, Umuahia.

The Governor lauded the contributions and sacrifices of the Nigeria Armed forces in the fight against various forms of insurgents and maintenance of nationhood, regional, and global peace and security, maintaining that the supreme sacrifices made by the fallen heroes to keep the nation safe will not be forgotten.

According to him,” the efforts and commitment of the members of the Nigeria Legion, the Armed Forces, Para- Military and other Security outfits to peace, unity and security in the state, Nation and global

The Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration for 2021 was launched in Abuja on Wednesday 28th October, 2020 by the Grand Patron of the Nigeria Legion, the President and Commander in chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari.

In her speech, the Commissioner For Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief (Mrs) Ukachi Amala stressed that there is no better way to appreciate and honour members of the Nigerian Legion and Security Agencies who fought, risked and lost their lives to ensure peace and security than investing and donating generously towards the upkeep of their wives, children and other dependent relatives. She expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to witness the annual event despite the challenges of 2020.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Commander Ambrose Nnabugwu noted that the State Legion has not relented in supporting the Governor Okezie Ikpeazu administration for transforming the State through various road and infrastructural projects among others.

He appealled for the redemption of approval of pleddges and subvention made to the Legion, support to develop their permanent site, acquisition of operational vehicle and urged all to donate generously towards the
Emblem and Appeal Fund Launch as a way of appreciating the sacrifices the fallen heroes made to keep the country united .

ABIA ONLINE gathered that the occasion featured decoration of the Governor’s representative and others with the Appeal Fund Emblem, donations towards the launch of the Appeal Fund which is part of the activities leading to the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration billed for January 15, 2021.
