Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Mr Tony Nwamuo says he is satisfied with the turn out of Aba residents in Tuesday’s emergency sanitation and clean up exercise.
Mr Nwamuo, who disclosed this in an interview with newsmen after monitoring the exercise in Aba, said the level of compliance is encouraging.
He however regretted the that the level of destruction of government property was enormous and urged youths in Aba to heed the Governor’s call to sheath their sword and give peace a chance.
He noted that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s administration has done much for the youths and urged them not to allow hoodlums to infiltrate their camp so as not to derail their genuine demands.
Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the Deputy General Manager ASEPA Aba Chief Rowland Nwakanma, lamented that unpatriotic inhabitants of Aba used the #EndSARS protest period to dump refuse in an unothorized places and litter the streets with refuse.
Chief Nwakanma who mobilized tippers, pail loader, compactors and other ASEPA equipment and staff for the clean up exercise assured that the agency will put in more efforts to ensure thorough cleanliness of the city.
Speaking, the ASEPA Waste Manager for Ugwunagbo LGA Mr Ihenacho Wagbara, Aba North waste manager Mr Emeka Nwosu, Aba south waste manager Chief Otah Odim Ukariwo and Obingwa waste manager Mr Osondu Nwigwe expressed their resolve to tackle the refuse heaps in parts of Aba township within the short possible time.
Among those who joined in the clean up exercise include Elder Erondu Erondu Special Adviser to the Governor on special duties and the secretary Enyimba football club Mr Chibuzo Nwogu.
