The remains of the immediate past Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Abia State, late Sir. Johnson Okebaram Onuigbo (Akinboard) was laid to rest on Wednesday at his home town, Umuobasi Ugba, Afarata Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
Speaking at the burial ceremony, organized by the Umuahia Diocese of the Anglican Communion, Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu summed up the life and times of Sir. Onuigbo as one well lived.
Governor Ikpeazu described the deceased as a good man, kind, compassionate and peaceful, who always sought the good of others noting that he dedicated his entire life to the service of the Church, his community, State and humanity at large.
The Governor said of the deceased: He defined six important virtues in life in three ways: Akinboard was a very very fearless and courageous man. But he embedded that in humility. Akinboard loved his friends and he defined friendship through loyalty. Akinboard defined fear of God through devotion. This man lived very well.”
He reminded his audience that the gathering of such was necessary for them to understand that a day like that awaits everyone. He charged the family he left behind to be consoled by the outpouring of love and solidarity that had greeted the news of his demise.
In a sermon, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese Rt Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, who preached on the topic: ‘Don’t be a Fool,’ charged people to live in the understanding of the will of God for their lives noting that to continue to live in sin is a sign of foolishness.
The first son of the deceased, Engineer Tochukwu Onuigbo, in a funeral oration, said their father was an embodiment of peace, love, compassion, hardwork, honesty, integrity and humility.
According to him, the late Onuigbo had a robust political profile and debuted as the first President of Ibeku Youth Association and served his people and community with uncommon passion and dedication.
While describing his father as a great mobilizer, the young Onuigbo affirmed that his late father’s election as the State PDP Chairman in 2016 helped the party in winning the governorship seat including winning several other positions in every election conducted since then.
Also speaking, the Council of Knights of the Anglican Church, Umuahia Diocese said the deceased was a baptised member of the Anglican Communion and remained a member until death, recalled that he was involved in the building of the Local church as well as the Chairman of the building Committee for the church.
They prayed God to forgive his sins and accept him in His kingdom.
ABIA ONLINE gathered that late Chief Sir Johnson Okebaram Onuigbo popularly known as AkinBoard, who was born on the 5th of March, 1954 and died on July 27th 2020, was survived by his wife, Lady Uzoamaka Patience Onuigbo, four children, four grandchildren, a brother, Chief Uwadileke Onuigbo, in-laws and a host of other relations.
The burial was well attended by people from all walks of life.
