FUEL SCARCITY: ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT FORCES FILLING STATIONS TO SELL GOVERNMENT APPROVED PRICES, SEALS 5 OTHERS

A combined taskforce team monitoring the regulation of petrol price in Abia State has dispensed about two thousand litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as Petrol at a petrol stations found selling the product at 250 per litre.

The team which comprises State government officials, DPR personnel, DSS and NSCDC officials, moved round Aba and Umuahia metropolis to ensure availability of the product on Thursday. Some attendants at one of the filling stations located along Aba Road Umuahia, hurriedly switched off their engine and absconded when they sighted the team.
They were later arrested through intelligence of the security personnel and information by residents. The attendants were then compelled to sell the products at the official pump price.
The team later sealed five petrol stations for the same offence. Some of the petrol stations sealed include DIORAMA station in Aba Road Umuahia, Ezeugonna Petrol Station, along Enugu/Portharcourt road, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Tonimas Petrol Station Aba, Vicdach oil and Neo Pamalar in Aba.
At some petrol stations in Aba and Umuahia, the Team forced the marketers to adjust their pump price from N250 to the official rate of N145.
Representative of State Commandant of NSCDC, maintained that illegality being perpetrated by the marketers will no more be condone and anybody caught will face full wrath of the law.
The taskforce team will continue its operation to some filling stations today in Aba and Umuahia.
Meanwhile, the commissioner for Petroleum Barr. Chizuru Kanu directed that the taskforce should check for marketers hoarding the product and those selling it above the pump price.
“What we have discovered is that some of them have and not selling, while some are selling above pump prices in the night.”
