GOVERNMENT TO INTRODUCE A CENTRAL PROMOTIONAL EXAMINATION FOR BOTH PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SCHOOL IN ABIA – EDUCATION COMMISSIONER

The Commissioner for Education, Abia State, Dr. Kanelechi Nwangwa has disclosed that Government would soon introduce a Central Promotional Examination at the end of every year, where every student, irrespective of whether he is in public or private school would be mandated to sit and pass examination for promotion. This he said, would put to an end the issue of mass promotion in schools.

Dr. Nwangwa made the disclosure in an interactive session with newsmen in his office, noting that the State Government was poised to redeem the education system and restore the standard and quality of Education in both public and private schools in the State.

He reiterated the stand of Government in ensuring quality of education in the State, insisting that there was no going back in the closing down of sub-standard schools in the State.

Dr. Nwangwa observed with dismay, the establishment of schools which has become an all comers affair and maintained that Government would no longer tolerate sub-standard running of schools. He added that government would ensure that the closed substandard schools remain closed while total supervision would begin in ernest on the schools allowed to operate.

The Commissioner used the opportunity to inform that Government has began regular payment of teachers’ salaries in the State addingg that the bottleneck in the Junior and Senior secondary schools has been settled.

Nwangwa noted that renovations and rehabilitation work are currently on going to enable the public schools resume fully on Monday next week for the continuation of the 2019/2020 academic year.

Recall that the State government through the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Anthony Agbazuere announced the postponment of public schools in the State to enable government complete ongoing renovations in some schools with a view to realizing a more robust teaching and learning environment for our teachers and children.
