The Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Abia State chapter, Thursday conducted primary elections across the 17 Local Government Areas the State, to elect Chairmanship candidates for the forthcoming December 18th Local Government elections.
In Obingwa LGA, Mr. Ibe Michael Nwoke has emerged the overwhelming concensus candidate after all his co-aspirants unanimously stepped down and endorsed him for the ticket.
Addressing the delegates and the entire party faithfuls after his emergence, Mr. Ibe Michael Nwoke appreciated the party delegates and other aspirants for their support for him and assured that everyone would be carried along to ensure victory for the party in the forthcoming election.
Nwoke said the People of Obingwa had been known for conducting peaceful elections in spite of having a large population and thanked them for conducting themselves peacefully.
He expressed his willingness to work with the Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for the overall development of Obingwa Local Government Area.
Meanwhile, some Stakeholders in Obingwa LGA have lauded the peaceful disposition and maturity exhibited by aspirants and delegates during the the just concluded PDP Chairmanship primary election which saw the emergence of Mr Michael Nwoke as the Flag bearer.
Some of the delegates, including a former House of representatives member Chief Eziuche Ubani, the immediate past Chief press secretary to the Governor, Mr Enyinnaya Appolos, a state lawmaker Chief Chidiebere Thomas-Nkoro, his Colleague Mr Solomon Akpulonu, described the outcome of the exercise as a collective will of the people.
Also bearing their minds, a founding member of the PDP in the State, Dr. Isaac Ogbonna, a former Obingwa Council Chairman, Mr Hanson Amaechi, Mr Ogbu Ikpeaba among others, called on the candidates that emerged at the primaries across the seventeen LGAs of the State, to carry everybody along and ensure the over all victory of the party in the December 18th election.
The stakeholders frowned at reports of violence associated with the primary elections in some LGAs, and advised party members to embrace the principles of internal democracy and see elections as a call for service.
