The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has summoned former Director General of the National Intelligence Agency ( NIA), Ambassador Ayodele Oke and his wife, Folashade, to appear before a team of investigators probing the discovery of $43.45 million cash kept in a private apartment in Lagos.
In a two paragraph statement last night, spokesman of the commission, Wilson Uwujaren, said that the invitation was in furtherance of a probe into the into the $43.4 million, £27, 000 pounds and N23.2 million recovered on April 12, 2017 from the seventh floor of a four-bedroom apartment at Osborne Towers located on 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos,
The discovery led to Oke’s sack after President Muhammadu Buhari directed his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo and two others to unravel circumstances leading to the Lagos discovery.
On Monday, after months of receiving a report of the committee, Buhari fired Oke.
The EFCC revealed that Oke’s wife had refused to honour previous invitations.
“Besides the couple, other suspects are equally being invited, to determine their culpability, or otherwise, in the humongous cash, in foreign and local currencies, stashed in a residential building on Osborne Road, Ikoyi, Lagos.”
The statement was silent on sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal.
A source, however, confirmed that the EFCC has received the report of the Presidential Investigative Committee headed by Osinbajo, which implies that more suspects from the NIA would be invited for interrogation.
The commission re-opened investigation into the monies recovered in April
