Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has charged the members of the Abia State Board of Education Trust Tund to take stock of all the education facilities in the State with a view to rehabilitating them.
Governor Ikpeazu gave the charge at Government House, Umuahia during the inauguration of the 19 member Board of Education Trust Tund with Chief Tony Ukasonya as the Chairman while Mr. Isaac Iwe will serve as Secretary.
The Governor, who observed that the board was the first of its kind to be established, said the essence was to ensure that the State, under his administration, sustains its status of being the number one in education.
Represented by his deputy, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, Dr. Ikpeazu disclosed that members of the board were carefully chosen taken into consideration their antecedents and pedigree and expressed the hope that they would live up to expectations.
The State chief executive used the opportunity to reiterate the importance of adhering strictly to the preventive measures against the Covid-19 pandemic by Abia people calling on all stakeholders to carry the campaign to their various homes and commuinities.
In an acceptance speech on behalf of others, the Chairman of the newly inaugurated Board, Chief Tony Ukasoanya said they would do their best to ensure that the aim of establishing the board was achieved.
He thanked Governor Ikpeazu for finding them fit to man the board and assured that they would not disappoint the Governor and government of Abia State.
The board, which has its members drawn from various relevant quarters, has Chief Isaac Ogbonna as Abia South representative, Chief Ifenkwe Otta for Abia North among other members.
