Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has fulfilled his promise of paying the new minimum wage to his workers in the State beginning from January salary and even paying N30,100 instead of the approved N30,000 minimum wage
This is coming just few days after the agreement between Abia State government and the Labour movement in the State was signed.
Some jubilant civil servants who are currently receiving their salary alerts in the State have expressed joy over the development. Some of them, who didn’t want their name on print said that the January salary, which came with the new increment came as a pleasant surprise to them and confirmed the consequencial adjustment on their salary as a result of the new minimum wage. They thanked the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for implementing the minimum wage for n the State.
They described Governor Ikpeazu as a true promise keeper, who did not only pay the new minimum wage but even added extra money to the N30,000 approved by the federal government. They equally lauded Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for being resolute in supporting the welfare of Abia workers and prayed that God to bless him. According to them the minimum wage is a New Year package for them as It would go a long way in supporting them meet up with their responsibilities
Also speaking, a principal staff in the office of the Accountant General of the State confirmed that aside from few cases arising from delayed submission of new verified payroll by some MDAs, all Abia workers are receiving the new minimum wage as pledged by the Governor. He assured that those who are yet to receive their salaries would soon get it as soon as their necessary documents are received by the office.
It could be recalled that Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in his 2020 New Year broadcast promised to implement the agreed minimum wage endorsed by workers and government representatives this January, 2020.
