Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has lauded the Federal government for its policy of introducing methanol to the economy of Nigeria.
The Governor made his feelings known when he received the Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, his Mines and Steel Development counterpart, Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah and their team members, who were in Abia State to sensitize the people on the introduction of methanol into the Nigerian economy.
Governor Ikpeazu, representated by his Deputy, Sir. Ude Oko Chukwu said introduction of methanol into the Nigerian economy as key to improving technological development in the country, adding that it is what to the country needs to survive.
He advised that proper attention be paid to science and technology sub sector of the economy, describing it as strategic to the development of Nigeria. He informed that the people of Abia State and the South East are technologically inclined and would make good use of technology for the enhancement of the economy.
The Governor who commended Mr. President for the appointment of the first civilian Governor of Abia State,Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu as Minister of Science and Technology and Dr. Uchechukwu Ogah, the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development noted that the program would further enhance technological base and improve environmental health of the people in the South East.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu disclosed that the team was in the State to sensitize the people of the South East on the introduction of methanol into the Nigerian economy. He explained that introduction of methanol into the economy of Nigeria would have great impact in the economy, especially in the areas of energy and power generation, transportation, energy, manufacturing among others.
Dr. Onu applauded the Abia State government for its contributions to the development of the Nigeria, further revealed that the policy of introduction of methanol to the economy would be carried out in all the geo political zones of the country.
