IKPEAZU, PORTHARCOURT ROAD ABA: THE NEW DEAL.

by Ugochukwu Amaraizu Esq.
Whereas the seeming opposition or critics of this government are busy talking about May 12 judgment, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu is busy thinking about the welfare of the people of Abia State. In his usual characteristic ” manner “, the Executive Governor of Abia State, who has refused to be distracted by all manner of false and malicious publications both in the electronic and social media, is fully prepared to set another record profile for himself and this current Government.
Today being the 4th day of May, 2017, Dr Okezie Victor Ikpeazu , according to the Chief Press Secretary to the State Government- Mr Enyinnaya Apolos, will flag off the reconstruction of Portharcourt Road- Aba. It will be recalled that this road has been the center of criticism since after Ikpeazu’s Government employed the services of Setraco Construction Company to reconstruct Faulks Road, Aba. The arrival of Setraco at Faulks Road and their commencement of work therein diverted the attention of the opposition to Portharcourt Road. To someone, it may look as if it is the opposition that is holding the steering while this government holds the break to detect the movement of development in the State. However, whoever holds such opinion stands to be corrected. That opinion is NOT without fault. It is rightly reported that the State Government had already negotiated with the African Development Bank for credit facility to commence work on this capital intensive project. Due to a delay in execution of that contract, it forestalled the reconstruction of the road earlier than now.
As a well known NWA ABA ( son of the soil ), Gov Okezie Victor Ikpeazu has not been sleeping over the project. It is still in his heart. He is a man with good conscience and God’s gifted sense of reasoning. He feels the plight of the people resident and/or doing one business or the other at Portharcourt Road- Aba. Besides, the road is at a very strategic position as it connects the Aba- Portharcout- Enugu Express Way to Enyimba city through Asa Nnentu. The dilapidated state of the road has affected so many businesses in the area. The whole place ceased to be economically vibrant and useful both to the Aba South Local Government and the State. The fact that the reconstruction of Portharcourt Road will boost the growth of SMEs in the State is not in doubt.
Though Portharcourt Road is a Federal Road, Ikpeazu’s decision to step into the road is a welcome development. If there is any doubt as to whether Ikpeazu will be able to employ a high profile company to give the road a professional touch, whoever holds or entertains such doubt should make out time and visit Faulks Road, Aba. Faulks Road is a clear case of res ipsa loquito, that is, let the facts speak for itself. Those with eyes will be able to see but the blind ( though with their eyes wide open ) will not be able to see. They will continue to criticize. But this Government will never grow weary in discharging her constitutional obligations.
Ladies and gentlemen! Let us therefore support our Governor as he goes out with his friend- Gov Umahi of Ebonyi State to flag off the reconstruction of Portharcout Road today being the 4th day of May, 2017.
God bless Gov Okezie Ikpeazu!
God bless Abia State!!
