It has become a norm for Abians, irrespective of class, gender and creed to be chanting “Aba Made” at any occasion or forum, where the State Governor is in attendance, in admiration and commendation of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu’s strides in promotion of Made-In-Aba products. It has grown to become a household slogan in God’s Own State. The applause is given to our visionary and ebullient Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who has raised the people’s consciousness in that regard, through supporting, promotion and marketing of our indigenous brands. This was well directed and articulated from the stable of Abia State government. Apart from the economic merits, it is in tune with the saying that “Charity begins at home”, it is thus not a misdirected step.
This laudable initiative is not driven by Governor Ikpeazu alone, yes, it’s administratively correct that a leader assembles capable hands that will help him drive his vision home. In this spirit, Governor Ikpeazu’s kitchen cabinet have been cooperative and participatory in trumpeting and seeing this initiative to the halcyon shores.
Honorable Chinenye Nwaogu, the Senior Special Assistant on Job Creation and Youth development to the Abia State Governor was guest to Channels Television, he used the occasion to elaborate on the state government’s efforts to widen the spectrum of the Aba made brand and to intensify the crusade for the betterment of Abia state, Nigeria and the West African sub-region at large.
He said that issues of infrastructural bottlenecks are been tackled headlong, in his words “Government has constructed well, over twenty roads in Aba, and the ungoing construction of Faulks Road which leads to Ariaria international Market is in progress, coupled with the special attention given to Ifeobara pond which is the cause of the perennial flooding of Ariaria International Market, the largest in South East”.
The State is home to two power plants; Alaoji and Geometric power plants, the later is been positioned to generate uninterrupted power to the city cum industrial clusters
Honorable Nwaogu, said government has taken steps to beef up the quality of Aba made products to compete globally through;
a) Sending our local shoe and garment makers to understudy the automated and ultra procedures of shoe and garment making,
b) Establishment of garment and leather cluster in Umukalika, Aba, which is underway,
c) Establishing Abia Marketing and Standardization Agency; An agency saddled with the task of quality assessment monitoring and assurance.
In addition to other federal regulatory agencies like NAFDAC and SON, synergising to ensure our products come out with a stamp of quality and standard.
It is assuring that Abia State government has floated a One Billion Naira revolving loan scheme for entrepreneurs and those at the low level of production. Thus eliminating the bottlenecks created by lack or inadequacy of funds.
More so, in other to complement the marketing efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, that have been touring the offices of our elites and top government functionaries, Brand ambassadors have been engrafted to give a boost to the campaign. They comprise our nationally renowned music stars, actors and actresses.
Interestingly, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu was in Cairo, Egypt to discuss with Afrexim bank officials to attract industrial clusters, investments and related goodies to Abia shores. It is also highly commendable that Governor Ikpeazu have been setting example by always clad in Abia made fabrics and shoes since he became Governor.
It is indisputable, that Abia under this present administration is been modeled to become a modern state where all the indices for rating a developed state are inherent.
