Lionel Messi has signed a new deal with Barcelona, which ties him to the club until 2021.
Messi’s new contract with the La Liga leaders, has a buyout clause set at €700million.
Barca have moved quickly to tie up their prized asset after Paris Saint-Germain swooped last summer to sign Neymar in a world-record deal.
Messi will be 34 by the time this new deal ends, which will bring him up to 17 seasons with the Barcelona first team.
The Catalans have won eight La Liga titles and four Champions Leagues since Messi made his debut in 2004 and are on course to win the Spanish title this campaign.
They have a four-point advantage at the top of the table – and a ten-point lead over rivals Real Madrid.
Messi has netted 12 times in 12 league encounters and 16 goals in 19 games overall.
