It was a Harvest of appreciation for the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and his wife Deaconess Nkechi Ikpeazu, yesterday, at the Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia, when over 1200 women recruited as cooks for the home grown school feeding programme gathered for final briefing.
Mrs Ikpeazu congratulated the Women for being successful in the application, screening and recruitment processes. She charged them to take the responsibilities very serious and observe all the established regulations guiding the programme.
She informed the women that the programme was part of the efforts of the present government to provide empowerment opportunities for women especially the unemployed women in rural areas.
She urged them to use the proceeds of the venture to support their husbands and families.
In his remarks,the state focal person for Social Investment Mr Chinenye Nwaogu tasked the Women to ensure that they carryout their responsibilities with all diligence.
He said that the programme will greatly impact on agriculture productivity, women empowerment, improve rural and family economies.
One of the women who spoke on behalf of the cooks, thanked Governor Ikpeazu for his compassion for the less privileged. According to her, the vulnerable members of the society have felt the impact of good governance since inception of this administration.
They assured the wife of the Governor that Abia State will top the chart as the best in the programme nationally.
The statewide school feeding programme will commence on Tuesday May 30, 2017. Over 140 thousand children in about 859 public primary schools across the state will be fed one balanced meal daily for the next 3 Yeats under this scheme.
