You must have heard an aged long saying, that posits “there is no shorter road to Arochukwu”, well, that too is about to change. It was three weeks today that I set out to inspect the ongoing construction of Ndi Okereke/Ndioji bridge in Arochukwu local government area, Abia North senatorial zone – a direct link to Arochukwu kingdom from Ndi Okrereke. It was an exciting adventure as it was the first time I ventured that far with Abia Online team on soil of Abia. I was not smooth ride considering the muddy nature occasioned by a heavy downpour which occurred in the early hours of that very day. Along the way, we were greeted by rice farmer who expressed gratitude for the Governors’s decision and commitment to fix the road, even as they shared with us the challenges they faced due to the condition of the road. Arriving at the bridge, we met the workers of Master Services construction company at work, and the most cheering news turned out to be the engineer’s assurance to us that bridge will be ready to be used by those traveling to Arochukwu this coming festive season. When completed, the Ndi Okereke/Ndioji road will created unprecedented opportunities for rice farmers in the area, thereby bringing economic growth and enhance the welfare of Abians in the area. Finally, Governor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu will be noted to be specifically responsible for this change of an aged long perception of no shorter road to Arochukwu.
