The Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization, Chief (Mrs.) Nnenna Obewu-Onwuka has lauded the efforts of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu on what she refer to as “returning the lost glory of Aba and making businesses to start booming once again in the State”.
Chief (Mrs.) Obewu-Onwuka made her feelings known in an interview with news men recently.
According to her, “our Governor has gradually raised the standard again. Aba has gradually returned to its former glory. The Governor knows that without accessibility, no business would go on that’s why he is bent on construction of solid roads using cement pavement technology. Each time I go to Aba I’m very happy because of what the Governor is doing to ensure that the infrastructural development, not just in Aba but cut across the State, making sure that the dividends of democracy is spread across the State.”
Chief (Mrs.) Obewu-Onwuka, a former Commissioner for Transport, described Governor Ikpeazu as “a visionary leader, fearless, highly courageous leader and a leader that has come to reshape Abia State.”
In terms of performance, She insisted that the Governor has performed well, noting that she is impressed with the Governor’s performance.
She expressed appreciation for the Governor for building many schools as well as working together with his wife, Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu in the school feeding programmd in the State, including enhancing all the things needed to ensure the children have good learning environment, adding that under Ikpeazu’s administration, Abia has maintained the lead in WAEC and other public examinations.
She further noted that the Governor has performed well in so many areas including Agriculture, Small and Medium Enterprises, Trade and Commerce as well as health, where she said, the Governor has ensured that hospitals are better equipped citing his aggressive campaign and efforts put to contain the dreaded covid-19 as second to none.
Chief Obewu-Onwuka, who is a member of many NGOs, made a case for women to be given more opportunities to participate in politics and governance at all levels.
She said “We talk about 35 % affirmation. I don’t believe that affirmation. I believe in who is competent, who is capable and who can deliver, gender not withstanding. What we need to do is to give women a chance, more opportunities, Some of them are competent enough.”
The Governor’s aid equally advised women to express more interest, maintaining that they should be more courageous, fearless and bold to come out and express themselves.
She further stressed the need for government to empower women and appealed to husbands to encourage their wives.
“They should admire what God has given to us as women and encourage us to come out,” she added.
The Special Adviser who advised Abia people and residents to pay their taxes and sustain their support to Governor Ikpeazu, urged the Governor to continue with his all inclusive governance in the State.
