Givernor Okezie Victor Ikpeazu of Abia, has asked for divine grace and wisdom to make the state to be great and socioeconomically advanced.

The Governor expressed gratitude to God for his sustenance over the state in the past 26 years and the efforts of the founding fathers in the creation of Abia.

Governor Ikpeazu also prayed for divine blessings to be upon the people of Abia
and prosperity upon Abia to enable  the state attain its desired heights.

In his address, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, the Bishop of Catholic Diocese of Umuahia, on Sunday called on Nigerians to desist from engaging in ventures that will encourage disunity in the nation.

Ugorji gave the call in his sermon during the thanksgiving organised in commemoration of the 2017 Abia Day celebration in Mater Dei Catholic Church, Umuahia

He said that unity was an essential component in the growth of any nation, and advocated for tolerance as well as harmony among Nigerians.

Ugorji called on the federal and state governments to formulate policies that would be centered on meeting the yearnings of the masses, because the nation’s advancement relied greatly on it.

He said that it was disheartening to note that human trafficking, bribery and corruption were on the increase, adding that such vices ought to be wiped out.

Ugorji also frowned at the recent killings in Ozubulu and demolition of Eke-Ukwu market in Owerri which resulted in casualties, and called on the relevant agencies to bring the perpetrators to book.

He called on the people of Abia to support the efforts of the state government by making positive contributions that would yield growth and development in Abia.

”As we celebrate our 26th anniversary, I pray that God will bless our state with peace, security and stability.

”Abia is endowed with natural resources, I pray that God will bless the governor with wisdom to build Abia into a great state,” Ugorji added.
