Operation Puff Addar is against criminals – Abia police

The Commissioner of Police in Abia State, Mr Ene Okon, on Thursday, launched Operation Puff Addar following an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Mohammed Adamu.

The operation, which was launched at the Aba Area Command, was witnessed by stakeholders, including traditional rulers, market union leaders, politicians, sister security agencies and the clergy.

Speaking on the occasion, Okon said the IGP on April 11, 2019 in Abuja directed all zonal and state commands to launch the operation in order to minimize or eradicate violent crimes.

Okon, who said the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9, AIG Tijani Baba, had started the operation in Umuahia on April 17, stressed that the state command was following suit in obedience to the vision of the IGP for a crime-free Nigeria.

He said, “Today, the Abia State Command is launching its own Operation Puff Addar in the state to curb armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism and other violent crimes within the state.

“This is a veritable way of telling the members of the public that the rising crime rate in Abia is not tolerated by us.”

He revealed that the Operation Puff Addar in Abia State Area and Tactical Commanders would be in charge of carrying out its operational order.

Okon added that under the operation crime would be fought with intelligent gathering, surveillance and monitoring.

He enjoined all the officers and men involved in the operation to shun any act of corruption and other vices as such acts would not be tolerated.

A traditional ruler, Eze Monday Ugbo, from Aba-Ukwu Autonomous Community, who spoke on behalf of the monarchs, urged the police to intensify the fight against cultism “because it is small cultists that grow to become big time armed robbers.”
