The Oyo State Police Command has called on the family of the slain member of House of Representatives, Mr Temitope Olatoye, aka Sugar, and members of the public to avail the police of useful information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.

The state Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu, in a statement on Sunday, said first-hand information had been obtained on the identities of the suspected killers.

Olatoye, who represented Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, died on Saturday evening at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, from gunshot injuries he sustained in the head.

He was reportedly shot by some political thugs in the Lalupon area of the state during the governorship and House of Assembly elections.

But the CP assured the people that the hoodlums, who perpetrated the dastardly act, would be arrested and duly prosecuted.

The statement read, “The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Shina Olukolu, wishes to inform members of the public of an unfortunate incident that led to the death of Honourable Temitope Olatoye on Saturday, March 9, 2019.

“The CP and the heads of other sister security agencies in Oyo State, while monitoring the governorship and state House of Assembly elections in the state, received a report of an ambush and shooting incident from the Divisional Police Officer, lyana Offa, at Lalupon in the Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State.

“In the report, he stated that one Honourable Temitope Olajide Olatoye, aka Sugar, aged about 47 years, was attacked by unknown assailants who allegedly shot him in the head.

“He was immediately evacuated to the University College Hospital, Ibadan for medical attention, but unfortunately, he died later at the Intensive Care Unit, while receiving treatment.

“The police immediately commenced investigation and obtained first-hand information as to the identity of the suspected killers.”

The statement noted that the scene of the incident had been cordoned off while the CP had directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police, State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, to lead the team of investigators.
