There is separation of power in our constitutional democracy, with the 3 arms of government expected to work independently in pursuit of same objective: greatest good for the greatest number of people.
Bearing the above in mind, I will like to state the following facts with regards to the subject of this post:
1. It is the job of the legislature to select their leaders at all times without interference from the executive or judiciary.
2. They can also change their leaders as they deem fit because leadership of the legislature is derived strictly from the good will of the elected members. They are all equal and their leader is merely a first among equals.
3. When former Speaker Azubuike was elected it was the members that decided on him. The only input made by the majority party, PDP, was to suggest that the existing intraparty zoning arrangement be respected.
4. The current PDP zoning arrangement dictated that the Governor of the State is from Abia South senatorial zone, his deputy from Abia North while the speaker will come from Abia central.
5. Both former Speaker Azubuike (Isiala Ngwa North) and the new Speaker Kennedy Njoku (Osisioma) are from Abia central. Isiala Ngwa (north & south) and Osisioma are in Abia central alongside Umuahia (North & South) and Ikwuano LGAs.
6. The zoning structure remains intact with the emergence of the new Speaker.
7. The Governor of Abia State, rightly, have no reason to interfere with the internal operations of the legislature and cannot dictate to them who to make their first among equals. Reports available to me confirm that Governor Ikpeazu is not for or against the changes in the house.
8. The Governor will likely be at the state house of assembly tomorrow to deliver his 2017 budget speech.
9. The rumors of threat to the Governor is the figment of imagination of lazy conjurers. Ignore them with absolute pleasure.
10. Injecting the name of the majority leader, Engr Chinedum Orji, was meant to sell media copies and perpetuate the fallacious narrative of hired jobbers and their paymasters. Even before he was elected, Engr Orji made it clear he was not interested in the office of Speaker. Please leave him alone as you have once again confirmed he is true to his word.
11. The initial impeachment notice, to the best of my knowledge, was endorsed by PDP members and some APGA lawmakers. If you have contrary facts share that.
12. There is ABSOLUTELY NO THREAT to Governor Ikpeazu’s seat from the Abia House of Assembly.
